„Fontaine Session“ ist das zweite Album von DIE FICHTEN. Nachdem das Trio den Grand Prix des Jazzfestival Avignons in Frankreich gewonnen hatten, bekamen sie 2016 die Möglichkeit in den „La Buissonne Studios“ in Pernes-les-Fontaines neue Kompositionen aufzunehmen. Neben den Werken des Saxophonisten und Bandleaders Leonhard Huhn sind auch einige von Bassist Stefan Schönegg vertreten, der eigens für die Session komponierte. Auf eigenartige Weise öffnete dieses Album die Türen in die melodiöse Welt von DIE FICHTEN und fiel zugleich in eine Zeit, in der musikalische und persönliche Fragen komplexer und komplizierter wurden. So wurde dieses Album einige Jahre einer „künstlerische Bestandsprobe“ ausgesetzt, bevor es veröffentlicht werden sollte.
